lpv:translated text	"Around 80 million people are living with disabilities in the European Union, about 16% of the total population. These figures must therefore make us consider the importance of a policy to benefit them, concerning the work-related and, hence, the social aspects which affect all areas of their lives. The report by Mr Kósa, which I supported, commendably focuses on the problem of the need for disabled people to find work, with particular reference to the EU 2020 strategy. Considering that the employment rate of disabled people is only 45% and that, at a time of crisis like the one we are currently experiencing, unemployment among people with disabilities is around twice that of people without disabilities, it seems clear that work policy processes to increase employment among disabled people need to be put in place. Employment is, in fact, the starting point for investing in people with disabilities in order to improve the road to social cohesion and personal relationships. As Mr Kósa observed in his text, it is not a matter of equal opportunities, but of specific measures to encourage the integration of people with disabilities, first and foremost in employment."@en1
