Although it does not prejudice the usual means to access justice, I am persuaded that alternative dispute resolution (ADR) constitutes a quick and cost-effective alternative to litigation. Apart from being an effective instrument for small and medium-sized enterprises, ADR has considerable development potential, including in an online context, when it comes to the settlement of smaller claims. Therefore, through a joint action with the Member States, we need to encourage the creation of a harmonised legal framework which, by strengthening citizens’ faith in the internal market, can help boost Europe’s economy."@en1
