"Under Regulation (EC) No 2007/2000, the EU granted exceptional, unlimited, duty-free access to the EU market for nearly all products originating in the countries and territories benefiting from the Stabilisation and Association process. The key aim of this measure is to revitalise the Western Balkan economies through privileged access to the EU market. The resulting economic development will foster political stability throughout the region. The benefits of this regulation expired on 31 December 2010. Given the economic and financial crisis that we are currently experiencing, these conditions need to be extended until 31 December 2015, so that the expiry of these special conditions does not lead to stagnation in the economies of these regions, as good economic conditions are needed to maintain stability and peace in this troubled Balkan region."@en1
