In a sense, the measures contained in the report could appear controversial, since they aim to bring in a preferential regime for goods originating from Balkan countries. Considering our opposition to these countries’ rapprochement with and entrance to the European Union, setting up a preferential regime for goods from the Balkans could appear problematic. However, this document does take account of the possible damage that this kind of change could have for the EU market. It therefore proposes the adoption of defensive countermeasures to prevent our market being damaged in any way, up to and including the partial suspension of the preferential regime if any real problems arise. Since the document takes account of our market’s needs and makes them a priority, I have decided to vote in favour."@en1
