"The Palestinian people has been waiting for decades for the fulfilment of its legitimate and inalienable right to an independent, sovereign and viable state within the pre-1967 borders, including East Jerusalem, and to be a full member of the United Nations. It was as long ago as 1947 that the United Nations General Assembly established the principle of two coexisting states – Palestine and Israel. This principle has been reaffirmed in various decisions of the constituent bodies of the United Nations over more than six decades.
But, however unequivocal this decision may be in the light of the principles of the United Nations Charter, the situation in the territory itself is very different. Throughout the last decades, political, economic and military intervention by Israel, with the support of successive US administrations and the connivance of the EU, has done its best to invalidate and obstruct the existence of a Palestinian state in reality, subjecting the Palestinian people to violence and oppression in the most diverse forms, which continue to the present day.
Therefore, at a moment when what is needed are justice, clarity and unconditional support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, this resolution is ambiguous and can only help to disguise the further imposition of conditions which have been maintaining the
