"Madam President, there is an urgent need for food aid for refugees arriving in Tunisia. This situation is also compounded by the threat facing the aid distribution organisations of the food stocks running out. I think that the EU needs to assess the situation and the humanitarian aid which still needs to be given to the Tunisian authorities to avert a humanitarian disaster in the region. I also believe that Europe, as a partner in the Union for the Mediterranean, must be involved more via its neighbourhood policy mechanisms to avoid the possibility of the shortage of food being used as a weapon and to tighten food security in the region."@en1
