"The Food for Free programme has been helping people at risk of poverty for 20 years now. The Czech Republic is one of the countries not backing the draft regulation. In its opinion it states that this issue requires a solution at national level through social policy and not at European level, including future regulations on spending from the European Social Fund. Allowing the purchase of food on the market, and thereby retreating from the earlier main objective of the targeted use of EU intervention stocks, now places this issue beyond the agenda of the common agricultural policy. The opinion, unfortunately, does not offer an actual solution for a programme which every year helps 18 million of the poorest people. I firmly believe that all of the players should particularly bear this fact in mind when looking for a way out of the current stalemate."@en1
