"Mr President, Commissioner, I do not want to repeat what everyone has already said, but I believe that, today, Europe does in fact have a real problem of credibility as a result of what is happening. We are being put on trial. We are being told, on the one hand, that there is the European policy and, on the other, that there is the policy of the Member States. However, if the Treaty of Rome of 1958 tells us that we must ensure that all Europeans are fed and that we must guarantee food security, this is a European policy. It is not a policy of the Member States Today, this situation shows, in addition to the selfishness of a number of Member States, that what is lacking is not more Europe but rather a European will on the part of a number of Heads of State or Government. At this point, I should like to pay tribute to the European Commissioner, Mr Cioloş, who, in an opinion piece published in the newspaper, had the courage to say that this policy was essential for the poorest Europeans. If we are incapable of challenging the decision of the Council, Europe will be disowned by its citizens."@en1
