"On 28 September 2011, the European Parliament adopted by a very large majority (442 votes in favour; 104 against) a resolution on human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The issue of the need to fight against discrimination in this area is of universal significance, both in the framework of EU foreign policy and within the Member States. The resolution reaffirms the fundamental rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, including the right to a family life. Moreover, the resolution text was strengthened in plenary by the adoption of joint amendments from various left-wing political groups, and even amendments tabled by the Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left, which called for the depsychiatrisation of the transsexual and transgender journey, free choice of care providers, simplification of the process of changing identity, and for costs to be met by social security schemes. I therefore voted in favour of this resolution."@en1
