In particular, I would draw attention to the fact that the identification, prevention and correction of macroeconomic imbalances must take into consideration the weaknesses of each country or region, as in the case of the more outlying regions and countries, whose resources and geographical location are an asset to the European economy. However, I must stress the utmost importance of the inclusion of Article 5(a) in this regulation, which advocates that the Commission play a greater part in limiting the role of the Council in issuing warnings and sanctions to Member States."@en1
