"The crisis we are experiencing requires swift and courageous responses. As the situation in Greece demonstrates, there is a need for an alternative agenda to extreme austerity, and for protection of the weakest and the unemployed, who have nothing to do with the cause of this crisis. As such, in addition to the necessary budgetary consolidation, Europe needs to ensure its ability to invest for growth, to create services and to maintain essential public services. The economic governance package should include a growth pact, in order that the Member States might make productive investments, capable of reversing the current economic situation. Moreover, Europe is not demonstrating long- and medium-term vision, and is exhausting itself with an austere reaction to the present crisis. Budgetary targets should exist in parallel with the Europe 2020 strategy targets. Decision-making processes should be made more democratic and robust, without nationalism, so that Europe can respond faster and more effectively. Europe also needs a system of Eurobonds to help stabilise the markets, a financial transactions tax to obtain new income and limit types of speculation, a stronger European budget equipped with own resources, and an end to tax havens."@en1
