"It is our duty to help developing countries to tackle the challenges associated with food security. Financial speculation and greater liberalisation of the financial markets and of trade in agricultural produce have largely driven world food price volatility, with worrying consequences for developing countries.
In this situation, we need to work to establish regulatory mechanisms that will enable us to guarantee a degree of market stability and to conclude equitable trade agreements that promote development. These agreements are essential to world food security. We should also aim to ensure that farmers are paid a fair price, given that their primary purpose is to feed the population."@en1
