The natural disasters that have recently affected the north and, in particular, the Veneto region, have underlined the need for urgent improvement to European civil protection mechanisms and assistance to the victims of such events, and the need to ensure that such mechanisms are rapidly implemented and not impeded by excessive bureaucratic procedures. These priorities have been well interpreted by the document in question, which specifically asks for a considerable reduction in the bureaucratic procedures relating to the management of assistance to victims.
