"Madam President, today two young Tibetan monks set themselves on fire in Kirti monastery to protest against the repressive policies of the Republic of China in the area. This year alone there have now been at least four occurrences of self-immolation in Kirti. Such a radical form of protest illustrates the despair of the Tibetans, who are seeking freedom of religion as well as meaningful autonomy in the historic area of Tibet. Continuous desperate acts of protest also demonstrate that Tibetans determinedly resist the ongoing violations of human rights and cultural genocide that are being carried out in Tibet. Therefore, the European Union, and its Member States too, should lend their support and address the human rights of Tibetans more rigorously with the People’s Republic of China, but also with Nepal, as only recently concerns have been raised over the possible repatriation of Tibetan refugees."@en1
