lpv:translated text	"Madam President, Romania’s failure to join Schengen, although it can be explained by Romania’s representatives’ inability to present this case convincingly, has, unfortunately, a negative impact on the whole Romanian population, not only on those in government who have demonstrated, once again, that they are not up to the task they have been given. Unfortunately, this point was overlooked when the vote was held on Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, with the states which openly opposed this move failing to take into account the far-reaching implications which a vote against Romania could have. I hope that, in future, this hostile and purely simplistic attitude will be replaced by one reflecting the real spirit of the European Union, whereby we must not punish a Member State and its whole population just because they have foolish leaders."@en1
