Romania and Bulgaria were given a promise on the day they joined the European Union that, if they met the necessary conditions, they would be admitted to Schengen, but this promise has been broken. I hope that both states will reverse this decision as soon as they can, in the nearest possible future, thereby demonstrating their impartiality. Romania and Bulgaria have fulfilled all the technical criteria for joining the Schengen area, and our citizens are entitled to enjoy the freedom of movement fully."@en1
