I voted for this report, as I consider the effective monitoring of European energy markets to be absolutely essential. Transparency and efficiency will be brought to the markets through the strengthening of the role of the Agency for Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), headquartered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in particular as regards truly effective coordination of the Member States’ network of regulators, as well as through the application of the legal framework in force. This will also bring objective economic gains. I would also stress the strengthening of ACER’s role in the areas of research and application of the legal framework in force, which seems extremely important as a way of discouraging competitive and practices detrimental to the interests of the Member States, the EU and consumers. I now hope that the final agreement with the Council will be reached quickly following the informal agreement of 23 June with the Hungarian Presidency, and that this regulation will come into force rapidly."@en1
