"At the European Parliament’s sitting in Strasbourg on 13 September, we Swedish Moderate Party members and Christian Democrats voted in favour of an own-initiative report on audit legislation in the EU Member States. The report has no legislative effect, but instead aims to clarify the European Parliament’s position with regard to the lessons to be learnt from the financial crisis in relation to the auditing profession. The report contains several passages that are problematic from our point of view, as they concern matters that should not be political positions, but rather are matters for individual private enterprises, such as how particular auditors are chosen, how far-reaching the audit remit should be or what the composition of an audit office should be – to name a few examples. However, all things considered, we did not consider it justified to vote against the report as a whole, but we would like to make our view on this matter clear by means of this explanation of vote."@en1
