"Madam President, the Subcommittee on Human Rights has twice played host to a delegation of women from East Kivu, and on both occasions the women have told us about the atrocities taking place there. They have also explained to us what they are doing to bring the criminals to justice and how they are organising the lives of women in the area. Unfortunately, the members of the delegation also told us last week, and their information was highly credible, that the EU representatives in the Democratic Republic of Congo have not been able to meet with them over the last year to find out what can be done to help them. On the contrary, we were told that existing projects are even being stopped. Therefore, I am calling on the Commission to follow up on this issue and to rectify the situation. It would be appalling if small-scale projects like this which are aimed at helping victims could not be continued."@en1
