"− I voted in favour of this report because, despite the progress that has been made in mine action over the past decade, efforts need to be intensified if the threat is to be eliminated. To date 156 countries, including 25 EU Member States, have signed and ratified the Mine Ban Treaty and a great deal of pressure is being put on those that have yet to accede to the Treaty to do so. Another aspect on which there is still much to be done is the destruction of stockpiles of such ordnance, particularly the stockpiles in China and Russia, which currently have 100 million and 24.5 million anti-personnel mines respectively."@en1
