"The ageing of the population is one of the most important challenges that the European Union is currently facing, but also one of its biggest opportunities. For these reasons, population ageing may be considered as a huge challenge, if not a hazard, or it could offer new opportunities for European society, depending on how well we prepare for it. One way to meet this challenge consists in ensuring that the population aged around 60 or over can remain in the labour market for longer, continue to be active participants in society and remain healthy and independent as long as possible. It is therefore a challenge that European society has to prepare for and, if this is successfully done well in advance, it could become an opportunity for Europe to prosper faster and with greater social cohesion across generations."@en1
