The European Union has a huge role to play, particularly in view of the current situation in the Arab countries. I agree with the idea of supporting the construction of civil societies in these countries, and the idea of democracy based on the rule of law being used as a foundation for relations with other countries. It is also crucial for the Eastern Partnership programme to gain increasing significance, and I therefore voted in favour of adopting this report."@en1
