This support offered by the European Union helps improve the quality and effectiveness of development aid and the application of the principles of ownership and harmonisation, given that political dialogue between donors and recipients enables contributions to be tailored to the priorities countries have set in their national poverty reduction strategies. Furthermore, budget support can enhance not only the accountability of third country governments but also donor coordination through establishing the necessary dialogue on budgetary issues.
