This motion for a European Parliament resolution on universal service and the 112 emergency number is important because its aim is to evaluate the 112 system in order to improve it, which may help save more human lives in emergencies. The European Parliament has repeatedly stressed both the need to educate the public about the importance and role of the 112 emergency number and the poor quality of the services which have been provided to citizens via this number. Therefore, this evaluation will be able to suggest new methods for raising citizens’ awareness and ways of improving the 112 service. This resolution is also intended to facilitate the implementation of this 112 system on broadband (Internet), thereby making it easier for citizens to adapt to current requirements."@en1
