"I voted in favour of the own-initiative report by Mrs Rapti because I believe she has produced a critical and constructive assessment of the recent developments in universal service (or the minimum set of services of specified quality to which all end-users have access at an affordable price, including universal broadband access) and the European emergency number 112. For example, the report emphasises that making broadband availability obligatory will not automatically result in higher take-up, and therefore calls on the Commission and the Member States to reinforce measures to drive demand and stimulate take-up. Moreover, I have to agree with the initiative to call on the Commission and the Member States to further step up their information work so that the emergency number 112 reaches all EU citizens and travellers through the media, particularly the print and audiovisual media, by means of information campaigns promoting it as the EU-wide emergency number"@en1
