"This report is aimed at the establishment of a European agency, based in Tallinn, Estonia, which will ensure the management of the Schengen Information System. The fingerprints of asylum seekers will be stored in a database, and a visa information system will be established. The possibility of establishing other systems in the Schengen
is also mentioned.
Our fundamental disagreements with the approach taken by the EU in the areas that are the subject of this report are well known. We believe that the need to preserve rights, freedoms and guarantees, which are vital to the real democratic functioning of the Member States, is not taken sufficiently into account. We reject the idea that databases and information about people should be increased in the name of supposed security. That is a dangerous path. Moreover, in the current economic and social climate, we believe that the establishment of this agency should not be one of the EU’s priorities. That is why we voted against."@en1
