"Mr President, many thanks to Commissioner Malmström for her answers. I especially liked it when she stated that this system is useful when (and this was the word she used, ‘when’) data are strongly protected. Now, the question that is raised is this: are we or are we not faced with a system, particularly with regard to the United States, in which European legislation on data protection is being respected? The Commissioner has legal opinion at her disposal. It seems to us that there is an attempt to force us to adapt to their data protection standard. As this concerns our data, however, it is they who have to adapt to our legal framework, and we have to be assured of this. However, it is not obvious whether this is actually happening in terms of proportionality and the use and retention of data. Finally, the Commissioner gave the idea that ‘pull’ was possible in certain circumstances. I would remind you of what Mrs in ’t Veld said: that is, according to the European Parliament, no ‘pull’ is possible; only the ‘push’ system should be allowed."@en1
