"Madam President, I was also a member of the delegation to Ulaanbaatar three weeks ago that held its eighth meeting there, where I had the opportunity to see for myself that the political structure and society are indeed becoming more democratic in Mongolia. Significant progress has been made in terms of human rights, we attended meetings with civil organisations which confirmed that they have already been acknowledged by the Mongolian Government, and freedom of the media has now been recognised, which is to be welcomed in any case. The signature of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement is of the utmost importance because it may allow the introduction of European standards in Mongolia within its framework. Furthermore, the refurbishment of the EU representation now functioning as a technical office is absolutely necessary to improve relations between the two countries."@en1
