"I consider that we need to improve the operation of the Internal Market and explore every avenue that will benefit businesses, especially SMEs, and consumers. Within this framework, Mrs Wallis’s report is a move in the right direction: it refers to the adverse impact which differences in contract law within the Internal Market are having both on consumers and on businesses, and to the benefits to the Internal Market of an improved contract law framework. I consider that, in order to achieve this, we need to create a user-friendly, flexible, clear legislative act which, where feasible, is binding on the Member States and which will facilitate and provide security of law to contracting parties, without interfering in national laws and without affecting the financially weaker."@en1
