Particular attention must be focused on the objectives set in the Europe 2020 strategy. Innovation must be guided by public interest, improving quality of life and promoting social well-being. Additional factors include active commitment from SMEs and the involvement of European citizens. The Commission should focus on technologies which underpin smarter, sustainable systems. All the strategies linked to adapting the EU to post-crisis conditions must be aimed at creating sustainable jobs.
