Through the creation of this agency, Euratom aimed to ensure a regular and equitable supply of ores, raw materials and special combustible materials in the European Union. Despite recent concerns deriving from the accident at the Fukushima plant, nuclear energy forms part of the European ‘energy mix’. The supply of whatever materials enable the agency’s objectives to be achieved is therefore essential if Euratom is to remain active.
