lpv:translated text	"The Gulf region is greatly important to the EU, and it is therefore vital to develop a strategy that is aimed at strengthening political, financial, economic, social and cultural ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). In view of this, the conclusion of the free trade agreement between the EU and the GCC is a priority. The potential of this cooperation also extends to other areas, such as education, energy and scientific research. I therefore support the appeal made in this House today for the formulation of a more ambitious EU policy in relation to the GCC and its member states, and I hope that the strengthening of dialogue and cooperation between the EU and the GCC will help to promote and consolidate progress with regard to respect for democratic principles and fundamental rights."@en1
