"I abstained throughout the voting on this report. Scotland is not within the eurozone and I therefore consider it appropriate to withhold my vote on this issue. Having said that, I note that paragraph 6 refers to Europe’s smaller nations ‘whose economy may be seen as not “indispensable” for the purposes of safeguarding the euro area as a whole’. I feel that this paragraph displays a dangerous arrogance; the EU is the sum of all its parts and the importance of all European economies is equal, regardless of size. History shows that unions based upon the dominance of larger members are doomed to fail."@en1
