"The 16th Session of the UN Human Rights Council offers a unique opportunity to evaluate the way in which the Council has fulfilled its mandate and, at the same time, a chance to improve the Council’s working methods with the aim of ensuring a more effective and systematic response to situations involving the violation of human rights. I think that it is vital to set up, as part of the EU Council, a human rights working group which will include experts in human rights from all 27 EU Member States, based in Brussels. It would also be extremely useful to appoint a special high-level EU representative for human rights. I hope that the EEAS, in particular, the EU delegations in Geneva and New York, will, in the future, improve the coherence, raise the profile and boost the credibility of the EU’s actions within the UN Human Rights Council by developing the EU’s ability to interact and cooperate at an inter-regional level."@en1
