USD 880 billion worth of funds leave developing countries through various legal and illegal means and are deposited in European and western banks. We, in return, put 60 to 70 billion of European taxpayers’ money into developing countries for poverty elimination programmes. Had that money – that USD 880 billion that escapes out of developing countries and is deposited in our banks – been left in those developing countries to develop those countries, how much better would it be that they would grow faster, have capital formation abilities, have property rights and commercial practices?"@en1
