"Mr President, it is quite true that health inequalities vary quite a lot within the European Union. The Member States are very different, as are their practices and traditions. It is obvious that if we look ahead and want to narrow this difference between health services at European Union level, we will need more training, education and awareness of what things affect health.
Obviously, socio-economic status has received a good deal of attention in this report, but I myself believe that a focus on the very basic issues, including access to health services, exercise, diet, and these sorts of things are important. These are what we need to highlight and stress the importance of if we look ahead and want to build a better and healthier Europe. In my opinion, we need an exchange of best practices.
I myself abstained from voting on this report because I believe that it contained a lot that is irrelevant. I hope that we can concentrate on narrowing health inequalities universally in the European Union."@en1
