"Mr President, we have been obliged to adopt a report today on the protection of patients from falsified medicines, partly because the market liberalism advocated by the European Commission has opened the door to the market in falsified products. Deregulated competition leads to medicines being falsified for the benefit of companies. The victims are consumers.
I voted for this report even though I am not entirely convinced that the definition of a falsified product is correct. Furthermore, it is not entirely clear who should be punished when a falsified medicine is found. However, it is an initial step in the right direction, and we shall see in a year’s time if our action was effective."@en1
