Development of the energy infrastructure plays a key role in ensuring the internal energy market’s operation. In this context, I want to stress that particular attention must be focused on the funding for this infrastructure for the timeframe up until 2020. The European Commission must present specific figures on the investment requirements and submit as soon as possible the new instrument for funding the energy infrastructure. In addition to the measures that need to be taken by the European Commission, it is important to strengthen the European Union’s partnerships with international financial institutions with a view to identifying innovative financial instruments.A suitable funding framework also needs to be created, particularly through improving the rules for allocating costs for cross-border projects or technologically advanced projects."@en1
