Europe needs an ambitious vision and a concrete plan in the area of innovation and energy. I hope that Friday’s European Council will be an important milestone in this respect. Much has already been done in the area of the European energy and climate strategy, but we need to go further. We need to stay at the forefront of technology by investing more in research and innovation, building the necessary infrastructure and training more engineers, scientists and technicians. At this critical moment, when we are experiencing an economic crisis, action is urgently needed. Moreover, there is a way of achieving this: by radically changing the way that we produce and use energy in our society."@en1
