"I have voted emphatically in favour of this own-initiative report on Alzheimer’s. It contains a very good overview of the measures which need to be taken in this field. No amendments have been tabled to the text adopted by the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, which indicates that these recommendations enjoy widespread support. In addition, I would also ask that we pay attention to the increasing number of surgeries for dementia-friendly communities being set up in countries like Germany, Belgium and Scotland. We must also consider the impact of expectations on the evolution of this disease. Unduly negative expectations can often have an adverse effect on the disease, as was, indeed, the conclusion of a conference organised by the Belgian Presidency at the end of last year. These comments should be included in the policy as well."@en1
