lpv:translated text	"I am in favour of this resolution because I believe we need to try to solve the serious problem of deforestation and degradation. Maintaining the integrity of forests remains a priority. The Commission and the Council must step up their efforts to ensure human rights are respected in the Republic of Congo. Another problem on which preventive action is needed is corruption, which must be substantially reduced. In order to ensure that corruption declines, it is important to support measures designed to guarantee the independence of the local judicial system and the creation of new judicial procedures. It is also vital to update legal texts designed to improve social justice and respect for the rights of local and indigenous communities. I should like to end by stressing the need for additional technical and financial resources to support the establishment of a system to verify the legality of timber."@en1
