"Mr President, what I welcome in this directive is a clearer definition of patients’ rights, the end of endless waiting lists and the proposed solution to the issue of no professionals being available in one’s own country. I am certain that we all understand and have empathy for the position of the healthcare systems of new Member States with modest financial capacities, as we also have to reckon with the risk of the emigration of a qualified workforce. If we vote yes, we will be demanding another immense effort on the part of the healthcare systems of Member States with more humble means, but if we vote no, we will indirectly ensure that the application of patients’ rights in the very same countries will remain limited. I am convinced that we will be able to find possibilities to balance out the operation of unequally equipped Member State healthcare systems. My country, Hungary, for example, could offer competitive services in balneology, physiotherapy or dentistry."@en1
