lpv:translated text	"Madam President, I would like to congratulate the rapporteurs, because their work is going to give European men and women the opportunity to convert their concerns into initiatives in the European Parliament. Today we are improving democracy, bringing decision-making processes closer to citizens and making them more open and deliberative, always looking towards people. This regulation is part of the Europe 2020 policy, and is a basic tool for managing the knowledge and talent available in society. It is also going to require us to learn new skills so that we can be more visible as political leaders in virtual communities, in the digital society, and lead in different way that is closer to the people and more human. It is a step towards political innovation, which must help us to be more transparent and restore people’s confidence in politics. Finally, the citizens’ initiative is going to be an opportunity for the regions to overcome the lack of recognition that they have in the current institutional structure of the Union. I am sure that, with resolve and imagination, the regions will also use this mechanism to bring their proposals directly to this House."@en1
