"This is an extremely important issue for the development of European entrepreneurship as a whole. There must be a harmonised system of VAT rates, applicable to all European Union countries. There must be a comprehensible long-term tax system as regards all types of entrepreneurship and industry. Only then can we reckon on success in fiscal policy. Currently in Latvia, individual politicians fail to appreciate the danger of an unstable tax system when plugging the budget deficit by continually amending tax legislation. This significantly endangers a future reduction of the tax burden and leads to the liquidation
of small and medium-sized enterprises. I consider that the European Commission’s initiative is timely."@en1
