"I am pleased at the adoption of this report, which welcomes the Stockholm Action Plan and, more specifically, the elements it contains in relation to civil law, commercial law, family law and private international law. The European Union is working to create a ‘European judicial area’, and that area is based on the idea that judgments, like people, must be able to ‘move’ within the Union, in order to help European citizens gain access to justice. This ‘common judicial area’ involves the principle of mutual recognition of judgments by Member States, and this issue of mutual recognition is crucial in areas such as family law, contracts, succession and wills, matrimonial property, and so on. These are crucial areas in everyone’s lives. Our report insists, among other things, on the importance of judicial training, legal education, the creation of networks between judges and the introduction of exchange programmes. I fully support these objectives."@en1
