"Mr President, Turkey’s strategic importance to transatlantic relations is obvious. In the light of this, I am very curious to hear the Council’s opinion on the new ‘Red Book’ of the Turkish National Security Council. Logically, this new edition follows the strategy of the Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs.
My first question to the Council, with the forthcoming transatlantic summit in mind, is as follows: does the Council share the fear that current Turkish foreign policy is playing into the hands of revisionist actors in the region – principally the Islamic Republic of Iran – and is thus actually undermining stability in the Middle East?
My second question is whether, indeed, the Council intends to raise the subject of the Red Book at the transatlantic summit, in view of Turkey’s position as being crucial to the EU as a candidate country and also crucial as a NATO partner?"@en1
