"Integrated maritime policy is enormously important for the European Union economy, because it can significantly improve its competitiveness. When establishing a framework for this, it is necessary to include strengthening economic development, increasing the level of employment in the sector and also protection of the environment. An important element in the strategy should also be a consolidated approach to the question of strengthening the role of European states in the field of research on the maritime economy and the development of technology and maritime engineering as well as the development of maritime resources. We should also remember to strive for the elimination of such dangers as piracy, illegal fishing and pollution of the environment. Integrated maritime policy should, therefore, include not only consolidation of several areas of maritime activity and strategic maritime economy as well as maximum use of maritime potential, but should also call attention to improving the conditions of work at sea."@en1
