"Moldova is one of those neighbours that is succeeding in drawing closer to the European Union. The areas of justice and public administration are being reformed and the fight against corruption is being strengthened. The issue of liberalising the visa regime with the EU is moving forward. However, there remain many unsolved problems, among them the question of Transnistria. The country is floundering in the economic crisis. The citizens of Moldova are hoping for specific reforms that would improve their lives.
I voted for this motion for a resolution because it calls on the European Commission to continue to aim for full visa liberalisation with this country in order to encourage people-to-people contacts, and to continue to support Moldova and help this country strive for the objectives of European integration. The parliamentary elections on 28 November will be a big test for Moldova. It is an opportunity to show that its citizens have the same values as EU residents. I call on the political forces within the country to guarantee political order and stability following the elections."@en1
