The report contains many sound proposals and guidelines for the European Commission and provides a fine summary of the various points of view. There is no need to radically change the current system, which works well, but some improvements could be made, especially where ‘governance’ is concerned. I believe that the standardisation system must remain private and voluntary and must be based on the principle of national-level management, but I also believe that the public interest must play a more active role in the process, through real, effective participation.
