I voted in favour with conviction and enthusiasm. Mrs Muscardini’s report is fundamental for the European economy and European consumers and is a measure that the entire production and manufacturing sector has been waiting for for a long time – too long, in fact. These are not protectionist measures but, instead, provisions to safeguard the health and freedom of our consumers, as well as the EU’s strategic production sectors. The regulation brings our legislation into line with that of our important trading partners, such as the United States, Canada, China and Australia. European citizens have the right to know the origin of the goods they buy in the same way as other consumers throughout the world. With this regulation, we have an opportunity to grant consumers this right, even though the scope of the regulation is limited to certain categories of goods."@en1
